Responsible for developing and monitoring the Trauma Program in all administrative and clinical aspects; assists Trauma Director in setting quality standards; acts on behalf of director of Division of Trauma when required. Identifies trauma specific educational needs and participates in planning/implementation of programs. Develops Trauma Center Quality Management Plan. Analyzes key data to assess important aspects of systems operations for improvement and resource management. Ensure compliance with County UCSDMC trauma contract. Promotes multidisciplinary approach. Maintains working relationships with other medical facilities which receive or send patient transfers to/from UCSDMC. Oversees trauma prevention outreach projects.

 

  1. Identifies and develops trauma specific standards throughout the continuum of care in keeping with overall nursing philosophy and patient care practices set forth by university and industry standard. Works with nursing, physician, and allied health professional leadership to develop methods of meeting standards.

  1. Continuously evaluates care provided by all team members, the therapeutic environment and treatment modalities and their success in guiding patients toward planned outcomes.

  1. Serves as a member of Medical Staff Committees, Medical Center Committees, teams, and task forces. Provides leadership and facilitates shaping and formatting of concepts for committees.

  1. Identifies trauma specific educational needs and participates in the planning and implementation of educational programs, seminars, and workshops as well as activities of professional nursing organizations.

  1. Complies and adheres to credentialing and licensing processes for all nursing staff and other licensed health care professionals within areas of responsibility.

  1. Develops processes which result in the collegial collaboration relative to patient and program issues in all inpatient and outpatient settings.

  1. Establishes communication network with professional organizations to facilitate sharing of information and resources.

  1. Collaborates with the Medical staff and other personnel representatives of allied group in the planning and coordinating of delivery of health care service to patients, such as case management and critical care paths.

  1. Identifies opportunities for enhanced patient care and system efficiency through analysis of clinical and financial data; develops activities to address data.

  1. Develops a written Trauma Center Quality Management Plan. Gathers historical, technical, and anecdotal information to assess important aspects of systems operations for improvement.

  1. Collaborate with key stake holders organization-wide in improving systems operations.

  1. Develops dialogue with a variety of disciplines. Facilitates consensus to ensure ownership compliance.

  1. Ensures outcomes are in line with internal policies and procedures and external rules and regulations of a variety of regulatory agencies.

  1. Develops alternative work designs. Reduces redundant work tasks.

  1. Implements and evaluates design pilots.

  1. Recommends successful pilots for expanded implementation into program operations or interdepartmental operations.

  1. Integrates trauma program operations with appropriate medical center functions.

  1. Documents all necessary performance improvement and quality assurance steps related to trauma center program.

  1. Implements monitors to re-evaluate effectiveness of changes. Provides leadership in formulation and refinement.

  1. Serves as Trauma Center program representative to County and regional committees and task forces including trauma contact negotiations. Targets and negotiates specific contract items. Provides leadership in shaping concepts and outcomes for committees.

  1. Monitors compliance with County contract and rules and regulations. Identifies noncompliance issues and develops remedial action plan. Communicates issues with appropriate medical Center leadership.

  1. Gathers, validates, and reports all data as required by County contract requested/required by County EMS.

  1. Educates Medical Center departments and personnel regarding their related contractual responsibilities.

  1. Prepares Trauma Center and other related departments for designation/verification on-site visits.

  1. Establishes working relationships with other medical facilities which receive UCSDMC transfer patient to the Trauma Center. Exchanges educational and quality management information in a confidential context.

  1. Collaborates with other regional trauma professionals on trauma prevention, research, and educational projects.
